I've been a bit unsettled by the reactions I've seen (mostly on FB) and have been trying to figure out where my heart and mind are aligned with the situation. When I read this scripture that has been drifting around, my heart was at ease; I felt reassured to be a patriot of the Kingdom more-so than a patriot of the world...
‘Our sins are heavy upon us; we are wasting away! How can we survive?’ As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live.
-Ezekiel 33:10-11
There are plenty of conspiracy theories and political jousting for everyone to have their share. Maybe Bin Laden was dead years ago. Maybe he's still alive. Maybe he never existed in the first place. To be sure, the people responsible for the atrocities that happened on 9.11.01 will be judged and held accountable. Just not by us humans.
By the same logic, I cannot judge the people who are celebrating the death of another person. I do understand the instant elation and relief and sense of victory... "America has won!" But all of this at the cost of a human life (no matter how heinously lived)... a human life, which- as far as I can tell- did not know the love of God... leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
But I get it.
Um... yeah. That got heavy. So let's have a little laugh at the whole thing, ya?
this.
